Disney Plus Gets Marvel Netflix Series

Netflix Series

Just days after Disney secretly disclosed that all of Netflix's Marvel episodes would be moving to Disney Plus in March for Canadian consumers, we now know when all six series will make the same move to Disney's own streaming service in the United States.

Disney announced that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, The Punisher, and ABC's Agents of SHIELD would begin streaming on Disney Plus in mid-March, joining the rest of Marvel's superhero programming, a sign that those characters' futures in the MCU may be in the works. In a press statement issued this morning, Disney's head of streaming, Michael Paull, described the upcoming IP reunion to unify Marvel's brand better and evolve Disney Plus as a platform.

The Reason Behind The Move

"We've seen tremendous success with this on Disney Plus in our global markets and will continue to do so here in the United States as well by providing our consumers with not only great content but also a suite of features that help ensure a viewing experience that's right for them and their family,' As Paull said.

In the United States, Disney Plus' material has tended to be considerably more geared toward younger people than in other countries, such as Canada, where the platform contains the more adult-oriented Star content center. As a result, Disney is also planning to provide a new set of parental controls, which will include profile-specific rating limitations, PIN locks for individual user profiles, and "Kid-Proof Exit" questions that will prevent youngsters from tampering with adult-created settings.

Given how much more explicit the previous Netflix episodes are in comparison to their Marvel-produced counterparts, it's understandable that Disney would take such measures. It's worth noting, though, that the studio chose Disney Plus over relocating the Defenders and co. to Hulu, which presently hosts R-rated films and TV-MA episodes starring Marvel characters like Deadpool and MODOK.

Launch Date

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, The Punisher, and Agents of SHIELD are planned to launch on Disney Plus on March 16th, along with all-new parental involvement control tools.
