Following Elon Musk's statement on Twitter that he no longer wishes to acquire the firm for $44 billion, staff has been warned not to speak publicly on the offer. The Verge has received an internal document from Twitter's general counsel that instructs employees to "refrain from Tweeting, Slacking, or posting any criticism concerning the acquisition deal."
The memo indicates that the merger is a pending legal issue. Musk's team says that the firm "failed or refused to give" information on the number of bots on its network, and Twitter's board has declared that it will sue Musk to guarantee that the purchase is finalized as promised.

Friday's announcement that Musk wanted out of the arrangement prompted Twitter staffers to instantly send out a number of amusing tweets regarding the issue. One person stated that they had "unilaterally canceled my mortgage" and were relieved they no longer had to make payments, alluding to the fact that it is uncertain if Musk may legally simply say "no" and walk away. After the announcement of the Musk transaction, a staff vacation to Disney was canceled as a cost-cutting move.

Today, the Twitter Board released the following statement in response to a claimed termination letter from Elon Musk (see our Chairman Bret Taylor's tweet here):
"The Twitter Board is committed to concluding the acquisition at the agreed-upon price and conditions with Mr. Musk and intends to take legal action to enforce the merger agreement. We are confident in our success before the Delaware Court of Chancery."
Due to the continuing nature of this legal process, you should abstain from Tweeting, Slacking, or publishing any criticism about the merger agreement. We will continue to disseminate information when we are able, but in the interim, our ability to do so will be severely constrained.
I am aware that this is a period of uncertainty, and we appreciate your perseverance and dedication to the critical job we are now engaged in.
