As it continues to expand features in order to compete with Google and Microsoft, Slack Technologies Inc. has acquired Woven a popular calendar app.
The details of the purchase were not disclosed. Slack Technologies announced that it invested in the calendar app Woven via its SlackFund. In a statement, Slack said, “We are thrilled to welcome the Woven team to Slack. We’re always on the lookout for top technical talent and are excited to welcome these individuals to Slack. We look forward to what we can accomplish together in Slack’s mission to make people’s working lives simpler, more pleasant, and more productive.”
More about calendar app, Woven
Tim Campos, CEO of Woven announced the acquisition by Slack in a blog. He wrote that the move was best for Woven's future even though we would have liked to maintain the app for its user base. Campos is pursuing other plans that will be announced at a later date. In the blog he writes, "Burc (Burc Arpat, co-founder of Woven) and I decided that our pace wasn’t fast enough to achieve our mission with the current business. Slack is tackling issues we care about -- productivity and innovation and are doing it on a massive scale and with great success.”
Woven was set up by Tim Campos and Burc Arpat. Tim is a former CIO at Facebook while Arpat was a senior engineering manager. After setting up the company, Campos took on the role of CEO while Arpat served as CTO. The app has found significant success and has been used to scheduled more than 2.2 million events. On its website, the company has announced that it will discontinue its services from May 28th, 2021.
Slack Technologies Inc's acquisition by Salesforce
In December 2020, Salesforce the world's most popular CRM, announced that it would be acquiring Slack for a $27.7 billion deal. After the acquisition, Slack became the interface for Salesforce Customer 360. The combined solution can compete with enterprise solution giants like Microsoft and Google. Slack is already a popular channel-based messaging platform among businesses. The CRM features of Salesforce and acquisitions like Woven will allow Slack to have a wide variety of features and make it a real alternative for businesses to Microsoft 365 and Google Suite.
